Dr. Polat Göktaş is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science & Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabancı University, Türkiye, where he leads innovative research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and the natural sciences. His work focuses on responsible and explainable AI, advanced imaging, and computational methodologies with applications in healthcare, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
Dr. Göktaş has held prestigious international fellowships, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship at University College Dublin and CeADAR – Ireland’s Centre for Applied AI, and the Fulbright PhD Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. His academic journey reflects a commitment to interdisciplinary research, incorporating AI, machine learning, computer vision, and bioinformatics to address real-world challenges.
He has received numerous recognitions for his scientific contributions, including the Best Paper Award at USMOS (2015), Young Scientist Award at the Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting (2016), IEEE AP-S Doctoral Research Grant (2017), Leopold B. Felsen Excellence in Electromagnetics Award (2019), METU Serhat Özyar Young Scientist of the Year (2021), Best Reviewer Award in AI, Computer Science and Robotics Technology (2024), and Rising Stars Ambassador (2025).
Dr. Göktaş actively contributes to the global scientific community through editorial work, professional service with IEEE and other societies, and leadership roles that bridge technology, ethics, and policy. His research interests include Responsible and Explainable AI, Computer Vision, Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, and AI for Sustainability, embodying a multidisciplinary approach to scientific innovation.
